Update from Cuba
Posted on May 13, 2020
My name is Yuniel Cruz, and I am the director of Global Action for Latin America. My wife Susel and I are originally from Cuba. We have served the Lord for more than 15 years as pastors and we currently live in Foley, Alabama, where we have our church.
I want to tell you a little about the current situation in Cuba, where we have 400 students this year. Cuba is a communist country, so shortages of basic things like chicken and rice have been common for a long time. But due to COVID-19, the economic crisis has been worsening. The Cuban people are gripped with fear—the threat of hunger feels much deadlier than the virus.
Believers are also struggling to scrape by. But I have been encouraged by the students in one of our Foundations classes, who have taken the initiative to pool the few resources they have and help those in the greatest need. These leaders are internalizing what they’ve been learning in our program. Their actions overflow with love for those around them even in these difficult circumstances of COVID-19.
I invite you to be part of what God is doing right now in the world. Your support for Global Action makes a difference in the most needy and desperate parts of the world. Right now, your gift will be doubled through a matching gift. You can help give hope!
Blessings in Christ,
Yuniel Cruz
