Dr. F. Lionel Young III

Mission Theologian

Lionel serves as the Mission Theologian for Global Action with a special focus on writing and teaching in the areas of theology and world Christianity. He holds a Ph.D. from the University of Stirling (Scotland) where he did his research on the history of Global Christianity under the British intellectual, David W. Bebbington. Lionel also holds a Th.M. from Trinity Evangelical Divinity School (Ecclesiastical History), an M.Div. from Grace Theological Seminary (Pastoral Theology), and a B. A. from Grace College (Biblical Studies). Before coming to Global Action, Lionel served as a Senior Pastor in the United States for nearly 30 years. He has served in theological institutions in various parts of Africa, Asia, and Oceania. He also works as a scholar in residence at the Cambridge Centre for Christianity Worldwide (Cambridge, England), where he writes about missions and World Christianity. Lionel’s recent book, World Christianity and the Unfinished Task: A Very Short Introduction, was chosen by Christianity Today as one of the best books on Missions and Global Christianity.
